Having received enquiries from members of the public about their position regarding the issue of same sex marriages, the NHTL decided to hold Public Hearings on the matter. The hearings where held in rural areas in six out of the nine provinces: Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Kwazulu natal, North West, Eastern Cape and Free State
